MASSENA -- Village police charged two people with misdemeanors for allegedly stealing a smartphone that officers connected to the pair using a tracking app.
Anthony A. Lewis, 28, of 10 Cook St. Apt. B, Massena is charged with petit larceny.
Cesar A. Rodriguez, 20, of 259 Center St. Apt. 1 is charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
Police said Lewis told them he found an Apple iPhone 5c on a sidewalk outside Dollar Tree at Harte Haven Plaza. He then sold the phone to Rodriguez for $15, police said.
Police found the phone by using an app that can be accessed externally that tells the owner where it is, officers said.
Lewis and Rodriguez were released with appearance tickets for Massena court.
