MASSENA -- An Akwesasne man facing a pending case for allegedly smuggling Polish citizens into the U.S. in February was arrested by Massena Village Police on Tuesday for allegedly violating conditions of his pre-trial release.
Ian Tarbell, 41, was in custody awaiting transportation to U.S. District Court in Syracuse as of 11:06 a.m. The federal warrant does not specify the alleged violation; it merely directs a federal marshal or FBI agent to arrest him.
Tarbell is facing charges from an incident on Feb. 24 where federal authorities say he participated in a scheme to bring four Polish nationals from St. Regis Village, Que. to the U.S.
The undocumented aliens were found in a car pulled over on state Route 420 by U.S. Border Patrol agents.
Five others are facing charges stemming from the incident.
