Busy traffic expected at Massena, Ogdensburg border crossings over Labor Day weekend

With busy holiday traffic expected at Ogdensburg and Massena border crossings this weekend, the Canada Border Service Agency is reminding travelers to plan ahead.

The CBSA is advising travelers to plan their border crossing to avoid delays at ports of entry in Eastern and Northern Ontario during the Labor Day holiday long weekend.

The CBSA recommends travelers plan their border crossing outside of peak traffic periods when possible, and to check border wait times on the CBSA’s website or on Twitter.

Travelers are advised to consider the potential for delays for the following dates and times when entering Canada:

Border wait times are not expected to exceed more than 20 minutes at crossings in Ogdensburg and Massena.

Peak traffic volumes are anticipated on Friday, Sept. 4 between 1 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 6 between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The CBSA offered the following tips to beat avoid delays.

• Beat the border rush. Cross as early in the day as possible.

• Keep travel documents handy. Make sure that each passenger has the correct travel document. An officer will scan them.

• Know your purchases, know where your receipts are, and know your personal exemptions and restrictions. Remember that all raw poultry, poultry products and by-products that are not fully cooked, including eggs and raw pet foods, originating from several states are prohibited from entering Canada until further notice. For more information on the current avian influenza outbreak, please visit the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s website at www.inspection.gc.ca.

• Know the contents of your vehicles.

• Not sure? Ask the CBSA officer or watch our travel tips video, or visit our website.
