MASSENA -- The Friends of the Nature Center is now accepting applications for the Dave Corse Scholarship.

The $500 scholarship is available to a Massena high school graduating senior planning to major in environmental education, recreation, forestry or a related area of study.

Applications are available through the high school guidance office.

The scholarship will be awarded to the chosen finalist at the Massena high school awards program.

Dave Corse was a long-time volunteer and advocate for the Nature Center at Robert Moses State Park.

He volunteered as an environmental educator and led many programs for school groups and special interest groups. He especially loved to snowshoe and teach visitors “back to the land skills” and outdoor survival.

He worked for the state parks service and the state Department of Environmental Conservation for more than 30 years.

The deadline for the scholarship is May 6.

For more information contact either the guidance office at Massena high school, 764-3710, or the Nature Center at 705-5022.
