Cobb County Police Chief John Houser, left, presented the award to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer Antonio O’Geen
MASSENA – A Massena native, who serves as border agent in Cobb County, Ga., was honored by the police department for assisting a police officer who was assaulted in June of 2015.
Cobb County Police Department (CCPD) Chief John R. Houser presented U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officer Antonio O’Geen with a meritorious service award.
O'Geen was honored during a police awards ceremony at the Cobb County Civic Center in Marietta, Ga., on Tuesday.
Assigned to CBP’s Port of Atlanta and a member of CBP’s Atlanta Field Office Special Response Team, he was recognized for assisting a police officer who was being assaulted.
O’Geen was off-duty at a restaurant near Atlanta on June 20, 2015, when he witnessed a restaurant patron assaulting a Cobb County police officer. The officer was responding to an emergency call at the restaurant.
O’Geen identified himself as a federal law enforcement officer and quickly subdued and handcuffed the hostile patron. He waited with the CCPD officer until backup arrived.
“Customs and Border Protection Officer Antonio O’Geen showed true professionalism and fraternity when he backed-up a brother law enforcement officer who was being assaulted,” said acting Port Director Devlin Chamberlin, Port of Atlanta. “We are all proud of Officer O’Geen’s actions, and for the recognition bestowed upon him by the Cobb County Police Department.”
The CCPD Meritorious Service Award recognizes any member of a public safety agency other than the Cobb County Police Department whose meritorious deed or actions benefits the Department or citizens of Cobb County.
