After two consecutive months losing money, Massena Memorial Hospital rebounded in May and finished $105,324 in the black, according to a financial and statistical summary released on Monday.

They are still in the red $164,684 year-to-date. At this point last year, they were in the black just over a half million dollars, the summary says.

Their gain in May was slightly ahead of the $101,000 they expected to gain, and their expenditures were $4,754,799, slightly over the $4,590,336 in their budget, according to the document.

Inpatient discharges for May were 190, about 10 percent below what they expected. Outpatient registrations came in at 11,079, about 3 percent more than planned, the summary says.

In a prepared statement released on Monday, hospital officials say their outpatient clinics are doing more business and they will be adding a doctor at the end of the year.

“The Louisville Family Health Center is up 29 percent over last year with the addition of Dr. Myo Win to the practice. The Medical Group, Surgical Group and North Country Women’s Health are all treating more 25 percent more patients than last year. Massena Neurology is up 14 percent, cardiology is up 13 percent and the Walk-In Clinic is up 9 percent this year,” the statement reads.

It also says the hospital plans to add a surgeon at the end of summer.

In August, an otolaryngologist (head and neck) and facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon is expected to come on board.

“With the addition of this new surgeon, it brings a new service … for the MMH community and all of the North Country,” the statement reads.
