MASSENA -- Massena Memorial Hospital is turning a profit for the first two months of 2016, but is behind their to-date budget projections.
Their books show a $144,000 gain so far this year. They anticipated $176,000, according to a financial and statistical summary made public on Monday. MMH had lost $188,000 in the first two months of 2015.
In February, they gained $65,000 and budgeted for $88,000. They lost $122,000 in February 2015.
“Some of our volumes are a little on the low side,” MMH CFO Patrick Facteau told the board. “Admissions are lower than last year.”
Last month, they discharged 157 inpatients compared to 198 the same month last year.
They handled more outpatients compared to last year, seeing 8,741 last month and 8,494 in February last year.
“The [emergency room] continues to be very busy, higher than in previous years,” Facteau said.
February saw 1,201 ER patients, 97 over budget and also 97 more than February 2015.
MMH CEO Robert Wolleben said it is their 10th straight month in the black, after years of finishing months in the red, sometimes to the tune of $250,000 or more.
“That’s the 10th straight month we’ve had a gain from operations,” Wolleben said. “I think it’s fair to say we’ve got some things in place that are working well.”
