MASSENA -- With a drop in inpatient cases and a rise in outpatients, Massena Memorial Hospital gained one-and-a-half times more than anticipated for September. They are close to $1 million in the black for the year, according to a September financial and statistical summary.

“We started to pick up some volumes in clinics with the new doctors … we’re starting to generate some additional revenues from that,” MMH CFO Patrick Facteau said. “It’s always about the volumes. We are growing. The cardiology clinic has grown substantially ... We’re up to 70-80 percent more … than last year.”

For September, MMH saw 10,504 outpatient registrations while budgeting for 9,493. Hospital-based clinic visits totaled 3,129, which is 39 percent above projections for the month.

For the year, they have registered 89,086, about 2 percent below expectations, according to the summary.

September inpatient discharges and observation visits were under budget. Facteau attributes this to fewer babies being born.

“Inpatients were under because of fewer births,” Facteau said. “Now that we have another OBGYN, we’re going to start recapturing.”

On the financial side, MMH gained $102,806 in September, budgeting for a $39,750 gain. Year-to-date, their books are $994,415 in the black, ahead of their $873,871 projections, according to the summary.
