MASSENA -- Massena Memorial Hospital has awarded their 2017 Hershey Kiss Award to Emergency Department Assistant Wayne Love.

“He was selected for his outstanding service to not only patients, but his colleagues at Massena Memorial Hospital,” hospital officials said in an announcment.

Love was presented with a one-pound Hershey Chocolate Kiss from Chief Executive Officer Robert Wolleben and Chief Nursing Executive Ralene North during MMH’s “National Hospital and Nurses Week Kick-Off Celebration” on Monday.

The award is presented yearly to a nursing staff employee “who makes the workday more enjoyable for everyone, while also providing excellent patient care,” MMH officials said in the release.

“Love was nominated for his ‘willingness to step in anytime to help,’ possessing a certain ‘heart’ that can be sensed by all with a smile always on his face and his feet always on the go. Love was noted to ‘make everybody laugh, even when it is crazy,’ one of the anonymous nomination forms stated,” MMH said.

He also serves as the chief of Massena Rescue Squad.

“MMH employees who work tirelessly behind the scenes is what makes Massena Memorial a living, breathing treasure to the community. Without our employees we could not provide the medical care that Massena residents deserve,” Dave MacLennan, vice-chairman of the Hospital’s board of Managers, said in a prepared statement.

Additional nursing staff nominated for the MMH 2017 Hershey Kiss Award include nurses Courtney Arquitte, Victoria Berg, Donna Dishaw, Heather Gardner, Jeannie Harrigan, Sherry Malak, Nicole Page and Beth Yeddo, dialysis tech Timothy Thomas and nurse assistants Rosemary Deragon and Kristina Wood.
