MASSENA -- The Town Council approved making new Massena Memorial Hospital Chief Financial Officer James Smith a signatory on hospital bank accounts on Wednesday night.
There was confusion at their meeting earlier in the month when Community Bank, N.A. had requested the town’s taxpayer I.D. number to use on a deposit account with Smith and MMH CEO Charles Fahd as signatories.
Board members stated at the time they were under the impression that it was a new account and were puzzled as to its purpose. They didn't realize the bank simply needed the I.D. number because Smith is being added as a signatory and no new account is being created.
