MASSENA -- After a crackdown on recycling earlier in the summer, it appears more people are complying with the new regulations, Mayor Tim Currier said Tuesday.
“It seems to be going significantly better,” he said.
He said village officials are working on a spreadsheet showing tonnage of regular garbage and recycling, going back at least a year.
“We are working on a spreadsheet, so we can start to track it. We’ll have that information soon,” he said.
Currier said on the last few runs, recyclables took up between 20 to 28 percent of the total haul, up from 17 to 18 percent in June.
“Those numbers are climbing. People understand what we’re looking for,” Currier said. “I want to thank people for working with us. It’s saving us money.”
