MASSENA -- The Northern Tier Provider's Coalition recently awarded Mayor Tim Currier with their Coalition Volunteer Award.
The group said Currier was cited “for his advocacy efforts in the prevention of chemical dependency in the Massena community.”
Currier, a former Massena police chief, has chaired the Massena Drug-Free Community Coalition for three years “and has volunteered his time toward the advancements in prevention efforts in Massena,” the group said.
He also started a prescription drug abuse task force in Massena during his time as chief. As mayor, he worked with ACR Health to bring a peer-delivered needle program, which is aimed at keeping dirty needles from intravenous drug users from sharing dirty needles and hopefully keep them from being discarded in public.
