MASSENA -- Outgoing Mayor James Hidy and Trustee Patricia Wilson got a tip of the hat from the Board of Trustees before closing out the final meeting of their terms on Tuesday.

Trustee Tim Ahlfeld gave them commemorative plaques and said a few words.

“Jim has always given 100 percent of his efforts to the residents,” he said. “The people of Massena were his number one priority.”

“I’ve never worked with more finer people than the people on this board and the people of Massena,” Hidy said.

He and Wilson each praised Village Clerk Patti Dumas, who Hidy said “runs the village” behind the scenes.

Ahlfeld noted Wilson for her eight years on the board, in which she served on the fire, police, water and sewer, economic development, negotiation and insurance committees.

She said she hopes more people will volunteer their time to help improve the community.

“If one person will commit one hour to serve the community, the past eight years will have been worth my time,” she said.

Speaking to her successor, Matthew Lebire, she said “I hope you get to realize some of the visions you have laid out.”
