A Massena man has been sentenced in Federal District Court after pleading guilty to helping two Chinese citizens enter the U.S. illegally from Canada.
Aaron Presley David, 21, will serve a year and a half in federal prison, according to the sentence handed down in Syracuse Federal Court Wednesday, and will be subject to three additional years of supervision.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Southwick, U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel questioned Chinese nationals Oi Wa Yeung and Tian Hua Zhou at a bus stop along State Rt. 37 at the Econo Lodge in Louisville on Nov. 24, 2014.
Quizzed about their citizenship, the two produced Hong Kong passports, but the investigation revelased they had not entered the U.S. legally.
David admitted picking them up in Snye, Quebec and brought them across the border into the U.S. He told officials he was to be paid $1,000 for the job, but was only paid $800 Canadian, according to Southwick. David had also purchased two bus tickets to New York City for them.
