MASSENA -- A Massena man is being held in the county lockup without bail after allegedly walking into someone's house without permission and assaulting an occupant.

Michael Morehouse, 43, of 9818 State Hwy. 56 is charged with a felony count of second-degree burglary and a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault.

He entered Ethel Major's house at 31 Belmont St. and punched James Amorosa, 51 multiple times in the face, according to court documents.

Amorosa sought treatment at Massena Memorial Hospital for a swollen right eye and lacerations near the eye and was later released, the documents say.

Morehouse went to the residence because his niece, Kendra Aldous, 22, led him to believe that Amorosa was hitting her, according to Morehouse's statement. He admitted in his statement to entering the residence without permission or an invitation.

Major told police he pushed past her to get inside.

Morehouse was charged at 12:23 p.m. Saturday at the village police station. He was arraigned in Massena court before Justice Gerald Sharlow and was ordered held at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton without bail, pending further court action.
