MASSENA -- Village police say a 32-year-old man is jailed on allegations that he swung an axe at his sister and her husband in the presence of their children.

Robert J. McGregor of 220B Highland Rd., Massena is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree menacing: weapon and fourth-degree criminal mischief, all misdemeanors.

McGregor's sister Bobbi Jo LaRock told police that McGregor showed up at their 118 Jefferson Ave. residence and was upset and yelling. She and her husband, Robert LaRock, went outside to confront him and he came at them with an axe. She said their children were scared and locked the door, so they couldn't get back in. McGregor then swung the axe, barely missing the couple and damaging the door, LaRock told police. He then left.

McGregor was charged at 11:05 p.m. on Highland Road, police said.

He was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald Sharlow and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond.
