MASSENA -- A Massena man is jailed after village police charged him with a felony for allegedly possessing 17.5 grams of crack cocaine in a taxi cab.
Elvis E. Pigott, 40, of 106 Liberty Ave. is charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.
Pigott was riding in a taxi cab from the Econo Lodge, State Route 37, to his girlfriend's house on Water Street. In court documents, Ptl. Dustin Currier said he was following the cab after being asked to do so by drug investigators. He said he pulled the cab over on Water Street because the driver had failed to signal. The driver gave consent to search the vehicle and told police she saw Pigott stuff something into the back seat. Police searched the car and found the baggie with white, rocky substance wrapped in tin foil, according to court documents.
Pigott was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald Sharlow and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton in lieu of $15,000 bail or $30,000 bond.
Pigott has another pending drug case where he was allegedly found with 60 grams of heroin in Fowler in May. He is facing felony counts of third-degree criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance in that case.
