MASSENA -- A Massena man is jailed on five counts stemming from an alleged domestic violence case where he allegedly choked his wife in front of their children, according to village police and court documents.
Travis J. Carter, 36, of 8 Madison Ave. is charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief and single counts of criminal obstruction of breathing and child endangerment, all of which are misdemeanors. He is also charged with second-degree harassment, a violation, police said.
Court documents say he choked his wife and smashed a chair in front of their three children, ages 3, 6 and 8. He then tried to prevent his wife from phoning police, court documents said.
He was charged at 12:43 p.m. Monday at his residence, police said.
Carter was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald Sharlow and remanded to the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton in lieu of $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond, police said.
