MASSENA -- A Massena man was jailed Sunday on domestic violence charges.

David S. MacDonald, 33, of Willow Street is charged with second-degree unlawful imprisonment, two counts of fourth degree criminal mischief and a single count of second-degree harassment, police said.

The charges stem from an argument between MacDonald and his girlfriend that turned violent.

He allegedly blocked the door to prevent her from leaving, then pulled her by her hair, which ripped chunks of it from her head, according to documents filed with Massena Village Court.

He also allegedly smashed her phone when she tried to call police, the documents state.

MacDonald was arraigned by Acting Massena Village Justice Patrick Serguson and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton, in lieu of $1,000 bail or $2,000 bond, police said.

Serguson placed the alleged victim under an order of protection.
