MASSENA -- Village police say a Massena man was jailed Saturday for allegedly stealing a cab ride to flee police who were seeking him in connection with two prior thefts from Walmart.
Tyler J. McGregor, 22, of 2257 State Rte. 420 is facing two counts of petit larceny and one count of theft of services, police said.
It started when a Walmart employee spotted McGregor in the store’s parking lot, recognizing him as the suspect in the June 30 theft of $367 worth of goods from the store, police said. He allegedly took $24 worth of merchandise at 8:09 a.m. that day, returning to the store and taking $323 worth at 12:36 p.m., police said.
He got in a cab and rode to 210 Center St., where he went inside and evaded police, without paying the fare, police said.
McGregor was later apprehended in the St. Regis Nursing Home parking lot on Grove Street, police said.
He was arraigned by Massena Village Justice Eric Gustafson and ordered held at the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton in lieu of $750 bail, police said.
