POTSDAM — A Massena man was jailed Wednesday after punching a car dashboard several times, breaking the radio, during a domestic dispute, according to state police.
Richard A. Christy, 21, was charged with first-degree criminal contempt and third-degree criminal mischief, both felonies, troopers said.
Troopers said Christy was a passenger in a vehicle when an argument ensued with the victim, who was driving, police said.
After Christy punched the dashboard the victim saw a state police vehicle on Maple Street with its emergency light activated. The victim pulled up to seek help.
Christy jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. He was taken into custody on State Highway 56 following a lengthy search by troopers, Potsdam police and St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.
He was arraigned in Pierrepont court and remanded to St. Lawrence County Jail on $250 bail or $500 bond.
