MASSENA -- State and tribal police charged a suspect in a high-speed chase that ended with a crash in Massena, resulting in no injuries.

The driver, Brian J. Goodfellow of 10 Merritt Ave., Massena, is charged with third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, second-degree reckless endangerment and numerous traffic infractions, according to Tpr. Brian LaBarge.

The chase started on the St. Regis Mohawk reservation and spilled into Massena.

LaBarge said he picked up the chase at East Orvis Street and state Route 37, where he said Goodfellow nearly struck another vehicle while driving at 60 mph in village 30 mph speed zones.

Goodfellow, driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty, turned into the Laneuville’s parking lot during business hours to evade a traffic light at East Orvis Street and Bayley Road, LaBarge said.

The pursuit ended when Goodfellow crashed into an earthen embankment on Curtis Street.

“It had to be towed from the scene … it was pretty smashed up,” LaBarge said.

There were no injuries reported.

There was a female passenger in the vehicle. She is not facing any charges, LaBarge said.

He said drugs and alcohol were not a factor.

“He was not intoxicated or high on drugs and we did not locate any narcotics in the vehicle,” LaBarge said.

Goodfellow was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald Sharlow and released from the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton after posting $5,000 bail.
