MASSENA -- A Massena man is jailed on accusations of assaulting a police officer while he was being booked for domestic violence-related charges.
Sabbath L. McGregor, 20, of 219 Barnhart Road is charged with second-degree assault and obstruction of breathing, both felonies, unlawful imprisonment, misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation, according to village police.
Massena court officials said the obstruction of breathing, harassment and imprisonment charge stem from a domestic violence complaint. They said he is accused of striking a female victim with a closed fist, causing bleeding, shoving her into a tub and restraining her from shouting for help and choking her until she nearly lost consciousness. This allegedly happened early on Sunday morning at his residence, court officials said.
While being booked at the Massena police station around 4:35 a.m. Sunday, he allegedly headbutted Ptl. Brandon Huckle, causing a migraine and temporary loss of vision. That led to the assault charge, court officials said.
McGregor was arraigned by Massena Justice Eric Gustafson and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton, in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond, court officials said.
