MASSENA -- A Massena man was charged with driving while intoxicated and jailed Wednesdsay after crashing his car through a stop sign and into a snowbank, according to village police.
Louis P. McClure, 55, of 3 Clark St. allegedly was driving on Allen Street at 1:32 p.m, allegedly with a high blood alcohol content. His vehicle had to be towed out.
He was injured and transported to Massena Memorial Hospital for treatment of a cut to the forehead, police said.
In addition to DWI, McClure was also charged with reckless driving, consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, failure to stay in lane, failure to keep right and no seatbelt.
He was arraigned in Massena Village Court by Justice Gerald Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton in lieu of $1,000 bail, pending a future court appearance.
Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story indicated McClure's blood alcohol level was five times the legal limit. Village police now say that has not been confirmed. Blood samples have been sent to the New York State crime lab in Albany. Results are are not expected for four to six weeks.
