LOUISVILLE -- A Massena man who was airlifted to the University of Vermont Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle is in unstable condition, state police report.
Troopers say Ricky J. Brainard, 58, was bicycling at around 3 p.m. Monday when a Toyota Rav 4 operated by Cindy S. Massey, 56, of Watertown, stuck him.
The investigation at the scene revealed that Brainard was riding a bicycle westbound on the shoulder of State Route 37. Brainard made a left turn to enter the driveway of a residence and was subsequently struck by the SUV that was traveling west on State Route 37.
Brainard was ejected from the bicycle.
He was transported by Massena Rescue to Massena Memorial Hospital, then later he was air lifted to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont, with a skull fracture and cerebral hematoma.
He condition is listed as unstable.
This accident is still under investigation.
