MASSENA -- The Town Council next month will look at a seasonal ban on overnight parking in the Town Hall lot.
Town Supervisor Joseph Gray said a tenant who lives above a store across the street parks in the lot year-round and it makes plowing difficult in severe weather.
“We’ve had a heavy storm, snow, freezing rain, ice. The car gets blocked in the space with a little hill of ice all around it. You can’t get the car out, can’t plow it,” he said.
Several people had to push the car out of the ice, which happened during business hours with traffic going in and out, which Gray said creates a liability.
“It’s kind of dangerous when other cars are in the parking lot,” Gray said.
He said the owner of the building should be providing parking elsewhere.
“Typically … the planning board will say ‘do you have parking’,” Gray said. “Shouldn’t be in the middle of the (municipal) parking lot in my opinion.”
He said the proposed law would call for no overnight parking in the lot from October to May.
