MASSENA -- The village board will hold public hearings for three proposed code changes governing the use of fireworks, outdoor gas-fueled fire pits and a the housing code.
The hearings will be Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the Town Hall’s second floor boardroom. The public can attend and offer opinions.
The proposed changes include:
• Changing the fireworks code to allow sparkling devices that are legal in New York on July 3 to 5, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
• Dictating that propane and natural gas fire pits be installed according to manufacturer specifications; meet “all state and international building and fire codes;” be safety certified in the U.S.; not be operated within 10 feet of flammable material and be constructed on non-flammable material; and requiring a building permit for permanent natural gas fire pits.
• Defining uniform standards in the housing code to mean “consistent in color, shape, size, design, texture and form.”
