MASSENA -- A fire that damaged a Massena home occupied by a family of five is being investigated.
The fire, originally reported as an explosion, occurred at about 10:20 a.m. at 6-A Cornell Ave.
The property was owned by David Seguin and was insured. However the property was rented to Beatrice Castle, who did not have renter's insurance.
Massena firefighters responded to the scene, along with Seaway Valley Ambulance.
Louisville volunteers were on standby.
Massena electrical and St. Lawrence Gas were also called to the scene.
Early reports stated that the fire included an explosion, but that has not been confirmed by investigators.
WWNY-TV 7 is reporting the blaze may have stemmed from a discarded cigarette that eventually ignited a box of shotgun shells. For that story click here.
