MASSENA -- The Board of Education last Monday night filled five teacher positions and appointed several substitutes.
The board's teacher hires included: special education teacher Alysse Ouimet, effective Aug. 30, 2018 to Aug. 29, 2021 at a $47,675 salary; junior high special education teacher Collen MacKay, effective Aug. 30, 2018 to Aug. 29, 2021 at a $56,853 salary; Jefferson elementary teachers Cortnee Charleson ($43,317 salary) and Angela Smith ($41,770 salary), each effective Aug. 30, 2018 to Aug. 29, 2022; high school technology teacher John Root, effective Aug. 30, 2018 to Aug. 29, 2021 at a $52,831 salary; and Jefferson elementary cafeteria monitor Barbara LaTrace, effective April 187 at a $4,232 pro-rated salary.
The board also approved a $1,000 stipend to district employee Claudeen Watkins and appointed Rosemary Paradis as an election inspector for the school budget and school board vote on May 15 at $11 per hour.
Substitutes approved included: long-term teacher substitutes Patricia Topa (Jefferson elementary, effective March 23 to June 30) and Jaime Aliffi (Nightengale elementary, effective May 21 to June 30), each at $100 to $150 per day; Madison long-term sub Heather Chontosh, effective June 5 to 30 at $85 to $120 per day; teacher and teaching assistant substitutes Josh Wallin (effective Match 28) and Megan Lane (effective April 17) each at $85 or $80 per day; and support staff subs Rebecca Perry (effective March 26) and Vanessa Virgilio (effective April 17) each at $10.50 per hour.
The board approved medical leaves of absence for: Jefferson elementary teacher Amanda Chapman (effective March 23 to June 30), Nightengale teacher Meaghan Janovsky (effective May 21 to June 30), Madison music teacher Nichelle Burnett (effective March 19 to April 13), districtwide occupational therapist Francine Leclerc (effective April 4 to 19), Madison elementary teacher Darcie Fregoe (effective June 5 to 30) and high school cook Dawn Fregoe (effective April 5 to May 2).
The board voted to fire Madison Elementary School cleaner Tina Rockhill, effective April 26.
