MASSENA -- The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 092-01-01 Massena is marking 75 years of service and is seeking new members.
Auxiliary members donate their time assisting the active duty Coast Guard personnel. They wear similar uniforms and do many of the same tasks as their active duty counterparts. Auxiliary members assist at the Massena Coast Guard station (Marine Safety Detachment).
Massena Flotilla 01-01 activities include conducting boating safety classes, manning an information booth at the Sportsman’s Expo, conducting safety patrols along the St. Lawrence River in vehicles, boats and planes, performing vessel examinations on water craft of all sizes and assisting search and rescue operations. Auxiliarists are qualified as boat crew, coxswains, vessel examiners, pilots and air observers. The Massena Flotilla has two water facilities (boats) and a pilot with a plane.
They hold regular meetings on the third Wednesday of each month at the Massena V.F.W., West Hatfield Street at 5:30 p.m.
Those interested in volunteering with the flotilla can call 842-3206.
