MASSENA -- Past District Governor Bette Miller, left, of Rotary International’s District 7040 presented a meritorious award of appreciation to Massena Rotary Secretary Sue Bellor and President Real “Frenchie” Coupal.
Miller hand delivered it from the school district of El Amaton in the small village of Santa Ana, El Salvador. Massena Rotary took the lead in a district matching grant through Mrs. Bellor’s working partnership with Mrs. Miller of East Cornwall Sunrise Rotary Club and in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Santa Ana Ciudad Heroica.
Several district rotary clubs supported this project which now provides a safe play area for children kindergarten through ninth grade along with a location for social and community activities. The play area previously was an unlevel and unsafe terrain which caused many injuries and respiratory infections from the loose rocks, stones and dust, due to the erosion caused by wind and rain.
This is one of many international projects in which Massena Rotary has been involved over the years, following their motto of “Service Above Self”.
