Updated Aug. 23 to clarify medical leave for specific employee is internittent
MASSENA -- The Board of Education hired teachers, teacher aides, sports coaches and accepted leaves of absence, resignations and retirements.
The board voted last Thursday to approve teachers including Laurel Czajkowski, junior high special education, effective Aug. 30 to Dec. 31, $454.54 per day for 66 days; Victoria Jacobs, Jefferson Elementary music teacher, effective Aug. 30, 2018 to Aug. 29, 2021, $52,831 salary; Danielle Packard, Madison Elementary music teacher, effective Aug. 30, 2018 to Aug. 29, 2022, $39,424 salary; Nicholas Corigliano, junior high social studies, effective Aug. 30, 2018 to Aug. 29, 2022, $40,455 salary; Carly Watson, Madison Elementary teacher, effective Aug. 30, 2018 to Aug. 29, 2022, $39,424 salary; Bianca Root, Jefferson Elementary teacher, effective Sept. 10, 2018 to Sept. 9, 2021, $47,675 salary.
The board hired teacher aides including Christina Woods, Madison Elementary, and Emily Harper, high school, each effective Aug. 30, $18,531 salaries.
The board appointed Jan Normille as teacher on special assignment at the high school from Aug. 30, 2018 to June 30, 2019 at a $62,010 salary.
The board okayed Nick Zappia as varsity football coach for the fall and he will be paid $5,199; and Brandon Downs, varsity boys basketball coach, who will be paid $4,390.
The board voted in favor of substitutes including Kimberly Long, long-term junior high reading teacher sub, effective Aug. 30 at $100 to $150 per day; and Maria LaPage, long-term high school teaching assistant sub, effective Aug. 30 at $100 per day.
The board granted leaves of absence to: Erin McLear, junior high special education teacher, effective Aug. 9 to Oct. 19; Megan Morley, Nightengale Elementary teacher, effective Sept. 11 to Oct. 23; Patricia Murphy, high school art teacher, effective Aug. 30 to Dec. 14; Carrie Thomas, high school English teacher, effective Sept. 26 until a to-be-determined date; and district custodian Michael Baines, effective on intermittent dates July 14, 2018 to July 14, 2019.
The board accepted resignations from: Jefferson Elementary teacher Siera Thomas, effective July 18; varsity boys basketball coach Tim Currier, effective July 24; junior high social studies teacher Ryan Hewer, effective July 20; Jefferson Elementary teacher aide Rachael Mott, effective Aug. 7; Nightengale Elementary teaching assistant Kari Martin, effective Aug. 13; and junior high reading teacher Wendy LaShomb, effective Aug. 30.
The board accepted retirements from head custodian Gerald Lashomb, effective Nov. 25 and Dale Edson, building maintenance mechanic, effective Aug. 7.
