MASSENA -- As the weather gets nicer and the temperatures rise, sometimes it’s difficult to stay focused on work, so to help encourage students to keep their brains turned on and improve their focus on school work, the Boys & Girls Club of Massena is offering an end-of-school-year Big Ticket Raffle.

The raffle is available for all area students, including kids from nearby community school districts including St Lawrence Central, Norwood-Norfolk and Madrid-Waddington. Students can also be in any grade this year, even though the club’s pilot program was only offered this year to students in grades 4 to 6.

Students can win an iPad Air 2, an Xbox One Assassin’s Creed Unity bundle, or a 17.5-inch touch screen, Dell Inspirion laptop computer. They have to improve their final grade in any subject by the last making period this year, or have a final grade of A in any subject.

“Kids will get their final report cards sometime in June. We will have several dates throughout the month of July for students to bring their report cards to the club building on Bayley Road,” says club Chief Professional Officer Debra Donatto. “Students will get a free raffle ticket for every grade they have brought up, or every ‘A’ they have on their final report card. One ticket for every subject, even art and physical education.”

Students can bring their report cards to the Boys & Girls Club of Massena, 30 Bayley Road, on July 9 and 13 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

For those unable to make those dates, call the Boys & Girls Club at 250-7806, or send an email to director@bgcmassena.org to make arrangements for an alternate time.

“We really want to make sure that all area students are included,” says Donatto. “We have a Teen Adventure Program this summer for our tweens and young teens, we have partnered with the St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau to offer Massena’s Youth Conservation Corps this summer, which is for 16 to 18-year-olds), and next school year, we will be offering STEM programming to the kids from area Head Start programs, which are our youngest students.”

Raffle tickets will be drawn and winners announced on Saturday, Aug. 1, during the club’s Fun Day and Health Fair Event which will be held at the club building on 30 Bayley Rd. from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. During that day’s event, the North Country Children’s Museum will offer free programming for kids, there will be workshops for all ages, face painting, balloons, and Slip’n Slides. B&D Entertainment will be there with an inflatable fun house, and BGCM will be hosting a live radio remote.
