MASSENA — The Board of Education on Thursday passed a first reading of a draft policy that would require some employees that are mandatory reporters to be trained in spotting meth labs.
As it is written now, the draft suspected child abuse and neglect/maltreatment policy has a section that calls for “provision of information in recognizing signs of unlawful methamphetamine laboratories for all current and new school officials (i.e., mandated reporters) who, as part of their usual responsibilities, visit children’s homes.”
In 2015, North Country Now reported that meth busts in St. Lawrence County were on the rise, with eight in the first six weeks of the year compared to 20 for all of 2014.
