MASSENA -- The Board of Education is looking for a permanent replacement for J.W. Leary Junior High principal Jesse Coburn, whose resignation they accepted Wednesday night.
“I’m hopeful we’ll have the junior high principal in place by the middle of January,” Interim Superintendent of Schools William Crist told the board. He added that the district will “convene a committee of stakeholders from Leary junior high and district administrators” to aid the search.
Coburn is leaving effective Dec. 6 – he has accepted a principal position at the Heuvelton Central School District. He was appointed junior high principal in August 2008 to replace Roger Clough, who had been appointed superintendent of schools.
The board also accepted on Wednesday the resignation of Katherine Lynch, a high school special education teacher, which was effective Oct. 28. They also okayed a one-year leave of absence for custodial worker Michael Baines, who will return Oct. 17, 2014 and a six-month leave for Title I teaching assistant Amanda Pierce, who will return Apr. 16, 2014.
