MASSENA -- The Board of Education on Monday appointed spring sports coaches, approved substitutes and OK’d leaves of absence and resignations.

Approved coaches include, for varsity baseball, coach Greg Paquin at a $5,199 salary and volunteers Taylor Zappia and Adrian Taraska; junior varsity baseball coach Alexander Kormanyos, $3,388 salary; modified baseball coach Sam Zappia at a $3,388 salary and volunteers John Acton and Pete Firnstein; varsity softball coach Susan Macaualay at a $4,617 salary and volunteers April Charleson and Lisa McKeel; junior varsity softball coach Michelle Trimboli at a $3,614 salary; modified softball coach Ashley Blanchard at a $2,743 salary; varsity boys lacrosse coach James Morrell at a $4,390 salary and volunteer Robert Davis; varsity girls lacrosse coach Jeff Slack at a $4,617 salary and volunteer Robert Todd; modified boys varsity lacrosse coach Sean Faucher; modified girls varsity coach Ed Letham at a $2,743 salary and volunteer Troy Mitchell; golf coach Mike Matejcik at a $2,968 salary; girls varsity spring track coach Dak Zaza at a $5,199 salary; boys spring varsity track coach Thomas Oldenburgh at a $4,390 salary; and girls and boys modified spring track coach Anthony Diagostino at a $3,388 salary.

The board approved resignations from varsity lacrosse coach Kristopher Covell and JV baseball coach Steve Lashomb, both effective Feb. 12. The board also took a resignation from bus monitor/food service helper Bobbi Jo Wright, effective Feb. 8.

The board appointed two-hour-per-day bus monitor Joyce French, retroactively effective Sept. 17, 2018 at a $5,681 salary.

The board approved substitutes including Heather Chontosh, long-term Jefferson Elementary teacher sub, effective Jan. 28 to April 5 at $80 to $120 per day; long-term high school guidance counselor sub Murphy Newman, effective March 1, $120 per day; teacher/teaching assistant subs Tracey Legeault (starting Jan. 30) and Abbie Paquin (effective Feb. 7) at $90 or $85 per day; and support staff subs Doreen Kemison and Janice Chakranarayan, each effective Feb. 4 at $11.25 per hour.

The board approved medical leaves of absence for motor vehicle operator Ted Burnham (effective Jan. 22), high school food service helper Tammy Ashley (Jan. 24 to Feb. 14), bus monitor/food service helper BobbiJo Wright (Jan. 31 to Feb. 8) and junior high senior food service manager Brandi Page (Feb. 14 to March 4).

The board approved retirements of junior high English teacher Thomas French and Madison Elementary teacher Rachael McCallus.
