MASSENA -- The Board of Education on Thursday appointed the slate of winter sports coaches and volunteers. The board also made several hires, okayed a substitute list and approved leaves of absence.
They include: Michael Trimboli, varsity boys hockey head coach, $5,199 salary; Kenneth Hurlbut, varsity boys hockey assistant coach, $3,614 salary; Gregory Paquin, varsity girls hockey head coach, $4,390 salary; Taylor Zappia, varsity girls hockey assistant coach, $3,388 salary; Alexander Kormanyos, varsity girls hockey volunteer; varsity boys basketball volunteers Matthew Perry, Tom Miller and Tim Currier; varsity girls basketball head coach Justin Shope, $4,390 salary; varsity girls basketball volunteers Sophia Rusaw and George Trippany; junior varsity boys basketball head coach Zachary Marcellus, $3,388 salary; JV boys basketball volunteer Peter Firnstein; JV girls basketball head coach Jarred Shope, $3,388 salary.
Also, modified girls basketball volunteers Adrian Taraska and Sophia Rusaw; modified boys basketball head coach Michael Matejcik, $3,388 salary; modified boys basketball volunteer Danny Mitchell; rifle head coach Kevin McBath, $5,199 salary; rifle volunteer Christopher Sanchez; cheering head coach Sandra Breault, $2,195 half stipend; cheering volunteers TommieJo Villnave, Jenna Brault and Emme Brault; varsity winter track coach Dak Zaza, $5,199 salary; varsity winter track volunteer Teresa Grigg; modified winter track head coach Anthony Diagostino; varsity wrestling head coach Scott Perrine, $5,199 salary; varsity wrestling volunteer Hunter Perrine; modified wrestling head coach Shawn Noel, $2,968 salary.
The board made five hires: junior high special education teacher Gerard Johnson $40,455, Sept. 19, 2018 to Sept. 18, 2022, $40,455 salary; 4.5-hour-per-day food service helper Tammy Ashley, $15,071 salary, effective Nov. 2; two-hour-per-day food service helper Sarah Huto, $5,256 pro-rated salary, effective Oct. 19; 4.5-hour-per-day bus monitor Celena Gilman, effective Oct. 19, $11,519 salary; Nightengale and Jefferson elementary literacy intern Brandi Rotach, Aug. 30, 2018 to June 30, 2019, $10,000 for two internships.
The board okayed substitutes including: Heather Chontosh, long-term Madison Elementary teacher sub, Nov. 1 to Dec. 13, $90 to $120 per day; teacher/teaching assistant substitutes Jordan Helmer, Angela Kossan and Charnay Strauss-Schmutz, effective Oct. 1, $90 or $85 per day; support staff substitutes Lisa Guild (effective Sept. 18), Zana Crump (effective Oct. 1), Charnay Strauss-Schmutz (effective Oct. 1) and Patti Laraby (effective Oct. 10), all at $11.25 per hour; and mechanic substitute Kevin Coughenour, effective Oct. 15, $24.57 per hour.
The board approved leaves of absence for cook manager Chrissy Phillips, intermittent basis between Aug. 30, 2018 and Aug. 30, 2019; Madison Elementary special education teacher Kimberly Maxfield, Nov. 1 to Dec. 14; and high school food service helper Tammy Ashley, Oct. 5 to Oct. 22. The board adjusted the dates for a leave of absence for junior high special education teacher Eric McLear, which is now from Aug. 9 to Oct. 31.
