MASSENA – The Massena Artists Association has announced the winners of People’s Choice Awards in their annual Spring Art Exhibit.

First Place was awarded to Marjorie Decker, North Bangor, for her three oil paintings, “Times Gone By,” “Time is a River,” and “Adirondack Winter.”

Second Place went to Catherine LaPointe, Massena, for her oil painting, “Oh Captain, My Captain” and her acrylic painting on shoes, “Leaves and Feathers.”

Third Place was awarded to Eileen LaBarge, Massena, for her oil painting, “Roadside Gold,” and her pastels, “Tiger Swallowtail” and “My Image of Scotland.”

Honorable Mention was a tie between three artists: Claire LaPointe-McEwan, Kingston, Ont., for her acrylic painting, “African Sunset,” Roger Smith, Massena, for his photo, “Morning Glory,” and Amanda Matott, Canton, for her oil painting, “Untitled #3.”

MAA would like to thank everyone who voted for their favorite works of art.

The awards were determined by the votes cast by guests at the opening reception for the exhibit.

Patrons who visited the Massena Public Library during the first week of the exhibit were also eligible to vote.

This year’s Spring Art Exhibit was MAA’s third completely open art exhibit.

It was open to all artists, all media, and all subjects.

It was not a juried show – everything that was submitted was included in the show.

Over 100 pieces of artwork were submitted; many were from artists who haven’t previously exhibited in Massena.
