MASSENA – The Massena Artists Association has announced that Catherine LaPointe of Massena has been selected to be their Artist of the Year for 2011-12.

This award is based on the work that she submitted to MAA’s Annual Membership Art Exhibit, and was announced Oct. 18 at the opening reception.

The judge was especially impressed with her oil painting, “Still Life on Tin.”

Catherine is a 2010 graduate of Syracuse University, with a BFA in Illustration. She does free lance graphic design. She enjoys doing book and magazine illustrations, comic art, advertisements, logos, and posters.

She recently finished writing and illustrating a book called “Urban Legends Across America – an A to Z Anthology.”

Previous clients range from North Country Public Radio and Massena Meals on Wheels to the Florence (Italy) International Theatre Company.

In her “day job” she works for a software design company in Canton.

She has been an MAA member since returning to the North Country in 2010.

In addition to being an accomplished graphic designer, she is a talented fine artist. Currently her favorite media are watercolor and ink drawing. She also is skilled in oil and acrylic painting, and has won awards in previous MAA exhibits for work in these media.

More information about this talented young artist and her work can be found at www.CatherineLaPointe.com.

She had the difficult task of selecting the winning entries from a large selection of very deserving work.

All exhibited work was created by members of the Massena Artists Association.
