MASSENA -- The Massena Artists Association announce the winners of People’s Choice Awards in their annual Spring Art Exhibit.

First Place was awarded to Joan Derushia for her coffee and watercolor painting, “The Tramp – Charlie Chaplin,” and her watercolor painting, “Lady Gaga.”

Second Place went to Tina Tarbell for her oil paintings, “Morning Light” and “Moonlight Night”

Third Place was awarded to Anita Huygen for her watercolor paintings, “A Kiss for Tinkerbell” and “53 Buick”.

Honorable Mention was a tie between 3 artists: Christopher Jay for his acrylic painting, “Cornelia’s Dream,” Mary Lacerenza for her acrylic paintings, “Cowboy” and “Making New Friends,” and Catherine LaPointe for her India ink and watercolor painting, “Frog Prince” and her oil painting, “Brad Pitt.”

MAA would like to thank everyone who voted for their favorite works of art. The awards were determined by the votes cast by guests at the opening reception for the exhibit. Patrons who visited the Massena Public Library during the first week of the exhibit were also eligible to vote.

This year’s Spring Art Exhibit was MAA’s fourth completely open art exhibit. It was open to all artists, all media, and all subjects. It was not a juried show – everything that was submitted was included in the show. MAA is very happy with the response from local and regional artists. Over 80 pieces of excellent quality artwork were submitted; many were from artists who haven’t previously exhibited in Massena.

MAA would also like to thank all the artists who entered their work, and would like to invite them submit work to future art exhibits in Massena.

The exhibit remains on display at the Massena Public Library through Friday, May 25. Artists may pick up their work at any time on Saturday, May 26.
