MASSENA – Amvets Post #4 Rifle Squad is looking for new members after seeing their numbers shrink from a squad of nearly thirty to twelve.
Squad member Fred Cockayne says another issue facing the group is that most of the members are growing older.
“We have one member that will be 94 but he is still active,” he said.
The rifle squad gives full military honors to deceased veterans and past years they have done two or three in one day. They generally perform between 40 to 50 a year.
The only requirement to join the squad is that you be an Amvets Post 4 member.
Any veterans interested can contact 315-764-0686 and leave contact information and either Tim Mattice or Fred Cockayne will return the call.
“Spring burials are nearly upon us and we need replacements,” Cockayne said.
