Maple City Trail in Ogdensburg reopens after being damaged by flooding from Oswegatchie River in April

OGDENSBURG -- The Maple City Trail will reopen today after being ravaged by the flooding Oswegatchie River last month.

The section of the Maple City Trail from the Lake Street Pedestrian Bridge to the Pump House will be open for public use beginning this afternoon.

City Manager John Pinkerton said there is significant damage to the seawall and parts of the trail were washed away. He said Department of Public Works and Parks and Recreation have been working to repair the areas of concern.

Pinkerton said a retaining wall near the trail will need serious repairs that are beyond the city's public works department. The city is currently looking for grant funding to help offset any local share that would be required.

Pinkerton said he has preliminary estimates on damage, but was waiting to share it until more concrete numbers are available.

"We still have work to do, but the city crews have been working to get the trail back up. That was our main concern. Now we can start looking at the other damage," he said.
