OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg will accept an award $1.66 million grant for the extension of the Maple City Trail.
The grant is from the Department of Transportation and will allow the city to renovate an abandoned railroad bridge that spans the Oswegatchie River.
City Planner Andrea Smith said the expanded trail would provide access to pedestrians and cyclists.
Deputy Mayor Michael Morley questioned how the city could afford to expand the trail given the municipality’s current financial situation.
Smith said the city’s share would be about $400,000, but said the city has a grant to cover roughly half that cost and said the match could likely be found without additional taxpayer funding.
