Several towns in St. Lawrence County will have primaries this year, but the majority of those elections will be between Republican candidates.

In Canton a Republican primary will be held for the highway superintendent position. Jim Gibson will challenger incumbent Terry L. Billings for the Republican nomination. Both candidates will also be on the ballot for a Conservative primary for the same position. Republicans Michael R. Morgan and Christopher R. Curley are vying for the Republican endorsement for the Canton town justice. That seat was left vacant after James Monroe announced he would seek the St. Lawrence County district attorney position.

In Potsdam three Democrats will seek two open town council seats. Judith Rich, Connor Newcombe and Sarah Lister will face off in the primary.

In Colton John J. Gray Jr. will challenge Kevin Beary for Republican nomination. Meanwhile Timothy M. White will face off against incumbent Kevin Hawley for highway superintendent Republican nod. Peggy Mousaw, Grace Hawley and Harold Granger will also compete for two open council seats on the Republican line.

In Oswegatchie Michael Hebert will challenge Alfred J. Nichols for the Republican endorsement in the race for town supervisor.

In Rossie Rebecca Cole-Manners will face-off against Philip J. Gentile for the Republican line in the race for town justice.

In Morristown incumbent David J. Murray is being challenged by Michael J. Moore for the Republican line for town clerk.

In Lisbon James P. Snyder is challenging Michael A. Baldock for the Republican endorsement for highway superintendent.

In Fowler Jeffrey A. Andrews and David L. Spillman will compete for the Republican line in a race for town council.

In DePeyster Kevin L. Murdock and Robert Chambers are competing for the Republican line in the race for highway superintendent.

In Clare Jessica Hanca and Robin L. Ward are facing off in a Republican primary for town clerk. Pamela A. Hance, Kalysta M. Giffin and Joyce Clothier are seeking Republican endorsements for two open town council seats.

There will be a primary for the Working Families Party and Women’s Equality Party in the race for St. Lawrence County district attorney. David Haggard will appear on the Working Families Party ballot, but voters will be able to write in challengers. The Women’s Equality Party primary will be write-in only.
