CANTON -- A Virginia man who is walking the perimeter of the United States to raise money to build homeless shelters across America was in Canton and Potsdam today.
Leroy Bailey began his trek about two years ago.
A Hannawa Falls woman who was following his story online took the opportunity to meet Bailey while he is walking through St. Lawrence County.
Brittany Lindsey and her two children stopped to meet him on U.S. Highway 11 near U-Haul Moving and Storage, 6229 U.S. Highway 11 around 11 a.m.
“He said he has been stopped a million times to meet people in the North Country, especially since he was on a radio station in Watertown,” said Brittany Lindsey of Hannawa Falls.
His fundraising efforts at https://www.gofundme.com/l95hbs have raised $7,990 by 160 people in 18 months toward a goal of $400,000.
