GOUVERNEUR -- A man was charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing his vehicle through a wall at the Gouverneur Nice n Easy on Friday morning, which injured the store manager.
Michael Harris, 49, of Dexter is charged with one count each of DWI and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, both misdemeanors, police said.
Police are awaiting a blood test to determine his blood alcohol content, according to Gouverneur Police Sgt. Gordon Ayen.
Harris’s Ford Explorer plowed through the store wall into an office where store manager Andrew Dedekker of Ogdensburg was working just before 9 a.m. He sustained minor injuries, Ayen said.
Dedekker was treated and released, according to the hospital.
“The investigation is continuing,” Ayen said when asked if there could be further charges filed against Harris, who was released from custody Friday afternoon with appearance tickets for Gouverneur Town Court.
Gouverneur Fire Chef Tom Conklin said he believes the store won’t have to close while it’s being repaired.
“They’re going to try to remain open … I don’t think there’s any potential it might collapse,” he said.
