HAMMOND – A Florida man was killed on NYS Hwy. 37 early this evening after the vehicle he was driving went off the road and struck a tree, according to state police.
Cory D. Eiland, 21, of 234 S Boundary Ave., Deland, Fla., was passing an uninvolved vehicle while eastbound at about 6 p.m., police said.
His vehicle crossed the westbound lane and went off north shoulder of the road, striking a tree, police said.
Hammond Fire and Rescue responded to the scene along with St. Lawrence County Coroner R.B. Lawrence.
Eiland was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Claxton-Medical Center in Ogdensburg where an autopsy is planned, police said.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, police said.
