CANTON – A report of gunshots fired near the St. Lawrence University campus Wednesday afternoon turned up loaded weapons and a suspect from Maine.
Zachary P. Parker, 22, 17 Lakeside Ave., Wilton, Maine, was arrested after several police agencies were called in to help campus security locate the source of the shots.
Parker was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a firearm: loaded firearm; two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon: large capacity ammunition clip; and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon: education institution.
Canton Village Police received a call at 3:05 p.m. from St. Lawrence University Security and Safety asking for help in finding the source of gunshots heard on the university’s golf course near Hulett and Jencks residence halls.
Village police, elements of the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force, the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police, and campus security recovered a loaded nine-millimeter handgun and a loaded shotgun, and took Parker into custody.
He was arraigned before Canton Justice William Galvin and was ordered held in the county jail in lieu of $3,500 cash bail or $7,000 bail bond.
Authorities said Parker has no affiliation with the university.
