POTSDAM – A Snye, Que., man faces numerous charges after stealing an ATV and leading St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies on chase down State Rt. 56 Friday.

Cory T. Edwards, 26, 1451 Rimer Rd, Snye, Que., has been charged with failure to comply, reckless driving of an ATV, operation on a state highway, not wearing a helmet, and possession of stolen property.

According to deputies, they attempted to stop Edwards when they first spotted him driving down Rt. 56 without a helmet. He refused to pull over and eluded police by going off the roadway into a wooded area.

Deputies were informed by state police that they had received a report of a stolen 2008 yellow Can Am four-wheeler. This matched the vehicle deputies had tried to stop.

Witnesses then told deputies they had seen Edwards leave the wooded area and enter a van.

The van was stopped by deputies on Rt. 56 in Norfolk. Edwards admitted to being the operator of the ATV and was taken into custody.

He is to answer the charges in Potsdam Town Court at a later date.

An additional person who was in the van was charged by state police for stealing the ATV, according to deputies.
