POTSDAM – A North Carolina man faces multiple charges after he illegally entered another’s home with a stun gun in an attempt to retrieve a child Sunday afternoon.
Alexander Carter, 25, was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree attempted assault, attempted custodial interference, possession of a weapon, two counts of criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child, according to Potsdam Police.
Police say Carter drove from North Carolina to Potsdam in an attempt to retrieve a child and return with the child to North Carolina.
Upon his arrival in Potsdam, Carter entered a residence on Racquette Road armed with an electronic stun gun. Police say Carter engaged in a physical altercation with multiple subjects inside the residence and using the electronic stun gun on at least one of them.
During the course of the incident Carter also damaged an interior door inside the residence and a cell phone broke as a result of the incident.
The entire incident took place in front of a child less than 17, resulting in the charge of endangering the welfare of a child. Carter was taken into custody and arraigned before Judge Monroe in Canton Town Court.
Carter was released under the supervision of probation.
